Afternoon Tea at The Langham Hotel

afternoon tea at The Langham

Hear all about my afternoon tea visit to luxury, five-star hotel, The Langham! Located in the heart of London.

Let me fill you in, The Langham is well known for its timeless elegance and its historic place in this central London location. Visiting for this absolutely gorgeous afternoon tea, served in their famed, art deco lounge, felt like the most divine way to ease my way into the weekend!

Our first course, obviously was sandwiches. We were served egg sandwiches, which I usually don’t like – but they were delicious and I was totally SOLD, as soon as they told me they used Burford Brown eggs (my FAVE!). The sandwiches are usually my least favourite part of an afternoon tea but this time, we even got seconds!

The other sandwiches were; coronation chicken with golden raisins, lemon curry with harissa bread, smoked salmon with beetroot and dill on rye bread and of course, absolute classic, cucumber, cream cheese and chives. Whilst their ploughman’s cheese scones, with cheddar and tamarind chutney were UNREAL. I’m convinced I will never have a better scone again.

For our second course, it was their famous pastries. Just WOW. They were inspired by our nation’s favourite biscuits, but turned into pastries! Yep, think your classic Custard Cream, chocolatey Bourbon’s and Jammie Dodgers. Except, reimagined with the professional skills of The Langham’s pastry chefs, making them something exquisite and memorable, definitely not something you’d be able to grab on your quick stop in the supermarket anytime soon.

My favourite was the custard cream one, it’s made with Tahitian vanilla cream, crunchy wafer and Dulcey. If there was a perfect way to interpret the flavours of your classic custard cream you’d dunk into your tea and turn it into a pastry. This is IT.

The much-loved Bourbon had been transformed into something rich and heavenly, a literal chocolate sandwich. Whilst the Jammier Dodger had fresh, sweet raspberry confit, bringing the essence of this fruity biscuit to life.

Lastly, for our final course, it was the oh so British, scones of course. We were given both a selection of plain and raisin, baked in The Langham’s very own, Palm Court Bakery. They were light, fresh and served with the chef’s seasonal fig jam (which was so perfect for Autumn), raspberry jam and of course, Cornish clotted cream. I probably won’t spark the debate now though as to which I put first on my scone!

The girls enjoyed a glass of Gusbourne sparkling wine, which, was actually made from their very own British vineyards. The whole experience was so well thought out, with every intricate detail created to compliment the traditional British afternoon tea, but seriously levelled up in a fabulous five-star setting.

I need to mention as well, how amazing the staff and overall service was. There was a lovely selection of teas to choose from and of course every part of the menu was SO delicious, we didn’t feel rushed and ended up staying for 4 hours! This is honestly, such a perfect way to spend the afternoon with your girlfriends or perhaps spoil someone for a special occasion. With Christmas coming up, this would be a lovely gift for someone, where you get to share a lovely afternoon with them, but also enjoy some of the most indulgent and delicious food!
